yenta of the arts - 2010-03-31

Last night, Brian Holtzinger's art studio was abuzz with the seeds of collaboration between local poets and artists. The evening was a creatively staged "matchmaking" event  to kick off the upcoming Word/Image exhibit that will open July 26th in the Peggy Lewis Gallery. 15 poets & 15 artists were matched by drawing names, and the newly formed pairs got right down to business. Once they got together, the buzz in the room was palpable! Folks left with phone numbers in hand, exited to begin work. We left them with these instructions:

Poets will provide Artists with one existing poem. Artists will provide Poets with one existing work of art. Before the show opens, Poets will need to create one new poem based off of the work of art that the Artist shared, and Artists will create one new work of art based off the Poet's new poem.

So, for the exhibit, each pair will produce 4 pieces in total. I can't wait to see what will appear on the canvas and the page. Here are the pairings, with artists listed first:

Ann Bowker & Rose Romfo
Elizabeth Frietag & Cindy Lamb
Gloria Gonzales Garcia & Sean Fitzgerald
Bob Jones & Mary Brunelle
Fay Jones & Randie Gottlieb
Laurie Kanyer & George Such
Eunsil Kim & Wendy Warren
Cheryl LaFlamme & Gloria Hayden
Lindsey Merrell & Katharine Whitcomb
Jon Merrell & LeAnne Ries
Richard Nicksic & Lee Rassmussen
Penn O. Shelton & Joyce Hernandez
Karen Quint & Sara Gettys
Delma Tayer & Terry Martin
Sarah Thomson & Lenore Plassman
Lucy Valderhaug & Mark Fuzie

PS Thanks to Brian for being such a lovely host!
