Who You Used to Be - 2010-07-12

A recently-spotted bumper sticker has become one of our favorites as it advises,

“Go back to being who you used to be.”

Such good advice on, oh, so many levels!

Around here, we think a lot about who we and our friends used to be. Some of us used to always get our hands dirty with clay. Some of us had a reputation for concocting interesting little sculptures out of the stuff in our under-the-bed box of treasures.  Some were diehard doodlers and others aspiring fashion designers who used the box of scraps Grandma gave us to good measure, although sometimes we pitied the pets who were forced into modeling...

We have all been explorers in the realms of imagination, so it’s good to get back in touch with those parts of ourselves, and not for just ourselves. There are younger folk who are watching us: our kids, grandkids, nieces and nephews, and the children next door. They’re keeping an eye on how we express what is authentically us because that’s how they learn how to express all that is authentically them.

Here at Allied Arts, we’ve got lots of opportunities for Art Explorers of any age to get back in the saddle. And if there’s something you want to learn or refresh your creative memory of that's not in ourlist of classes, let us know what that is. We’re here for you and your authentic self. We’d like to know who you used to be and help you get back in touch!
