Wendy Warren
A cluster of English daisies
hugs the rugged lawn
just outside the chain link fence
cheerful escapees
radiant in the uneven green.

As tiny as they are
they cannot deflect attention.

Botanical optimists
their unsuppressed light
hovers in bright clumps
celebrating the illusory gulf
between the earth and the sky.
